Sapporo is not only famous for its night views but also offers plenty to see during the day. Simply walking around the city can be an enjoyable experience. Today, I’ll introduce a leisurely solo itinerary I explored.
1) TOHO Cinemas Susukino
Address: 4 Chome-1 Minami 4 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 064-0804
One of Japan’s largest franchise cinemas has a strong presence in Sapporo. Here, I watched the movie 'Lupin III: The Blood Spray of Goemon Ishikawa.' While the movie itself wasn’t particularly enjoyable, the experience was worthwhile. Step inside to enjoy Japan’s unique goods and special perks culture, as well as exclusive snacks and drinks available only in Japanese cinemas. These days, many Korean movies are released here, so even if you don’t speak Japanese, there are plenty of films to enjoy.
2) Donguri Kokon Susukino Branch
Address: 4 Chome-1 Minami 4 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 064-0804
If you’re in Japan, especially Hokkaido, you can’t miss out on bread. Indulge in a variety of delicious and affordable bread options. You’ll find types of bread that are unimaginable from a Korean perspective waiting for you.
3) MEGA Don Quijote Sapporo Tanukikoji Main Store
Address: 4 Chome-12-1 Minami 3 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0063
The famous Don Quijote store needs no introduction. As a MEGA Don Quijote, it boasts spacious floors and wide aisles. Here, you can shop for food, souvenirs, clothing, and goods all in one place. The third floor’s goods corner is comparable to an Animate store—an absolute must-visit for otaku enthusiasts!
4) Moyuk Sapporo
Address: 3 Chome-20 Minami 2 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0062
Another great shopping mall to explore. Don’t miss the classic Lush store on the first floor, Japanese-style apple candies, and the Pokémon and Snow Miku collaboration on the basement level. Also, be sure to check out the indoor aquarium AOAO located on the fourth floor and above!
5) Tanukikoji Shopping Street
Address: 〒060-0062 Hokkaido, Sapporo, Chuo Ward, Minami 2・3 Jonishi 1–7 Chome
A shopping street spanning seven blocks. From restaurants to clothing, souvenirs, daily goods, and supermarkets, it’s hard to leave without buying something. Enjoy Japanese-style entertainment at the arcades and escape rooms along the way, and rent a kimono or yukata to prepare for beer festivals and matsuri events!
6) Wrap up with Gyudon!
Even if you’re traveling abroad, you might feel like you’ve spent too much money. Don’t worry—gyudon is here to save the day! Starting at just 500 yen, you can enjoy a hearty meal at various franchise restaurants. True local experiences are often found in affordable, everyday franchises. Surely, you know about gyudon, right?
That’s all for now! Sapporo has so much to offer, even with just a surface-level exploration. I look forward to sharing more stories and introducing more shops in the future!
