Sendai Toshogu Shrine! Stunning during cherry blossom season!

Compared to the most famous and extravagant Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the Ueno Toshogu Shrine located in Tokyo, and the Nagoya Toshogu Shrine that was destroyed by fire and has yet to be rebuilt, Sendai Toshogu Shrine stands out as a unique Toshogu Shrine. The first three were all constructed by the Tokugawa family.

Sendai Toshogu Shrine, however, was built by the second-generation head of the Date family. It not only symbolizes respect for Tokugawa Ieyasu, the ruler of the nation, but also demonstrates submission to the Edo Shogunate, likely to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

To the left of the main hall stands a weeping cherry tree over ten meters tall. Although I visited during the fresh greenery season, the cherry blossom season must be breathtakingly beautiful.
