Bongeunsa Temple is a 1,200‑year‑old Korean Buddhist sanctuary nestled in the heart of Gangnam, directly across from COEX Mall in Seoul. It offers a striking blend of ancient tradition and modern tranquility. Founded in 794 CE as Gyeonseongsa by the Silla monk Yeonhoeguksa, it became Bongeunsa in 1498 under Queen Jeonghyeon’s patronage . Despite destruction during 20th-century conflicts, the temple has been faithfully restored and remains a central hub of the Jogye Seon Order, especially during the Joseon era .
