St. Ignatius Cathedral, also known as Xujiahui Catholic Church, a breathtaking Neo-Gothic landmark nestled in Shanghai’s Xujiahui district. Xujiahui Catholic Church (St. Ignatius Cathedral)
Officially named the Cathedral of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, it's the main cathedral of the Latin Church's Diocese of Shanghai. Constructed between 1906 and 1910, it replaced an earlier 1851 church and quickly became known as "the grandest church in the Far East." It became the seat of the Bishop of Shanghai in 1960, when ecclesiastical leadership transferred from the older Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier (Dongjiadu).
