Marina Barrage is a sea water barrier located at the mouth of the Marina Channel in the heart of Singapore.
It serves as an important freshwater reservoir for the country and features a system of gates and water pumps that help control water levels and prevent flooding in inner-city areas such as Chinatown and Geylang.
The top of the barrage has been developed into a green public space, open for tourists and Singaporeans to relax, picnic, fly kites, and take panoramic high-angle city photos. Those who enjoy a chill atmosphere will likely appreciate it.
There is also the Sustainable Singapore Gallery exhibition, which provides knowledge about the environment, water management, and sustainable development concepts, suitable for both children and adults (open from 09:00 to 18:00, closed every Tuesday).
Getting there:
You can take the brown MRT line (Thomson–East Coast Line) to Gardens by the Bay station (TE22), then exit at Exit 2 and walk about 5 minutes to reach the barrage.
Marina Barrage is not just an ordinary engineering structure but also a learning center, a viewpoint, a recreational spot, and a popular picnic area for Singaporean youth.
