The City Pillar Shrine of Surat Thani

The City Pillar Shrine of Surat Thani is an ancient Srivijaya architecture with historical traces of the prosperous Srivijaya Kingdom from ancient times to the present. The construction of the City Pillar Shrine of Surat Thani was dedicated as a royal tribute and to honor the auspicious occasion of the 50th anniversary of King Rama IX's reign on June 9, 1996. It serves as a symbol of good fortune, a landmark, and a spiritual center for the people of Surat Thani Province. The design and construction were carried out by artisans from the Fine Arts Department, following the Srivijaya architectural style, emphasizing the original local architecture influenced by Lanka, Java, and Khmer, harmoniously blending together. It resembles the Phra Borommathat Chaiya but is twice as large.
