🏠The spirit of craftsmanship in the thatched house in Hida no Sato (Former Arai family residence)

Walking into the old Arai family residence in Hida no Sato, what comes into view is a three-story thatched roof. This is not an aristocratic mansion, but the residence of a traditional carpenter family in the Hida area. This building, built in the middle of the Edo period, represents the wisdom and practical beauty of the Hida craftsmen.

The wood working space and tool furnishings are preserved in the house, giving people a glimpse of how the craftsmen in the past carved beams and painted buildings, built shrines and houses here. In particular, the roof structure - the interlaced wooden beams and ventilation design show the perfect combination of craftsmanship and life.

As I walked up the stairs, I imagined that the craftsmen in the past sharpened their knives under the lamp while spending winter time with their families. This mansion is not only a residence, but also the soul of the craftsmen.
