Walking in Asakusa

Sensoji Temple is one of Tokyo's most popular tourist spots.

The surrounding area is full of things to see, not just the temple.

The oldest temple in Tokyo.
During the Great Kanto Earthquake, most of Tokyo burned down, but Sensoji Temple survived.
The people of Asakusa desperately tried to protect Sensoji Temple by using various methods, such as pouring water over it in a bucket relay, or destroying the surrounding houses before they caught fire when they thought they were in danger.

That's why it's an especially important place for locals.
The fortune-telling slips, which are said to have a high chance of bringing bad luck, are also interesting.

5th photo: Sensoji Temple Five-story Pagoda
The five-story pagoda is impressive and perfect for taking photos. It's also beautiful when lit up at night.

This is the tower where the Buddha's relics are enshrined.

6th-8th photo: Nakamise-dori
A street lined with many shops, this busy street is packed with worshippers heading to Sensoji Temple.
When the shops are closed, pay attention to the shutters.
It's lovely to see pictures of festivals and fireworks.

9th photo: Kaminarimon
A tourist spot that's synonymous with Asakusa!
No matter when you go, it's always full of people taking commemorative photos.

10th photo: Sensoji Nitenmon
An important cultural property.
The current gate underwent a two-year restoration starting in 2007, and is said to have been restored to its original appearance from when it was built in 1649.

11th photo: Asakusa Shrine
Asakusa Shrine is located to the east of the main hall of Sensoji Temple.
Commonly known as Sansha-sama.
Ebisu, one of the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods, is also enshrined here.
The benefits are bountiful harvests, prosperity in business, and protection from misfortune.
