Yonago was a quiet city with hidden charms. The city of Yonago was a good mix of cute shops and local businesses, making it easy to take a leisurely stroll, and the city itself was not too big, making it easy to explore leisurely.
The ruins of Yonago Castle were located high up, so the view was clear, allowing me to see Yonago City and the surrounding scenery at a glance. Although only traces of the castle itself remain, the stone steps and the old castle walls were enough to give me a sense of history.
The Conan Museum in Hokuei-cho is a must-see for fans of Detective Conan. This is the hometown of author Gosho Aoyama, and the entire town is decorated with a Conan theme, so you can find traces of Conan everywhere you go, not just in the museum, but also in the station, streets, and sculptures. The museum is filled with manuscripts, setting drawings, and experiential exhibits, stimulating fans’ hearts.
The Tottori Sand Dunes in Tottori City were definitely a unique sight, worthy of being the representative attraction of this region. The sand dunes that spread out like a desert are so exotic that it’s surprising that such a place exists in Japan, and the wide open view when you climb up and look out over the ocean is impressive. If you go when the weather is good, you can take good pictures, and you can also enjoy activities such as camel riding. Mizuki Shigeru Road in Sakaiminato City is a street where monsters and legends live and breathe. The monster characters of the author Mizuki Shigeru are installed as statues all over the street, so it feels like you’re playing a game of “monster hunting” while walking. There are many stores selling related goods on the street, and some stores even sell snacks shaped like monster characters, which was fun. There were many families visiting, and it’s a structure that you can enjoy even if you don’t know the characters.
