Salineras de Maras is an ancient Incan salt mine located in the Sacred Valley of Peru, featuring over a thousand terraced salt ponds that create a unique landscape. The salt mine has been operated using traditional methods passed down through generations. Mineral-rich underground water from nearby mountains fills the small ponds, and the water naturally evaporates to form salt. Each pond has subtly different colors and sparkling salt crystals, creating a picturesque scene. Local people still harvest salt using traditional methods, allowing visitors to experience a living cultural heritage. The landscape, especially at sunset when light and shadows blend, is a popular spot for photographers. Unfortunately, I could only visit during the day due to time constraints.
