Located within the Dongyue Temple in Jiedian Town, Wanrong County, Feiyun Tower is an outstanding example of ancient Chinese pavilion-style architecture. Known as the "Southern Tower" alongside the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda (the "Northern Pagoda"), it boasts a history spanning several centuries.
Situated at the front of the central axis of Dongyue Temple, Feiyun Tower stands 23 meters tall, featuring a three-story, four-eaved exterior with a cross-hipped roof. Over 300 sets of densely arranged and beautifully shaped brackets adorn the tower, resembling clouds, hence the name "Feiyun" (Flying Cloud) Tower. Its vibrant red walls, yellow tiles, and upturned eaves, adorned with wind chimes, create a striking visual. Inside, exquisite wood carvings depict lifelike figures and mythical beasts.
Beyond its aesthetic beauty, Feiyun Tower's construction technique is equally remarkable. Built without a single nail, it stands as a testament to the ingenuity of ancient craftsmen, remaining remarkably sturdy and resilient through the ages.
