Known as the "First Wooden Tower of China," Wannianrong Feiyun Tower is a must-see historical landmark in Yuncheng, Shanxi. Located within the Dongyue Temple of Wanrong County, it was built during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty and is one of the finest existing examples of pure wooden architecture in China.
🌟 Architectural Highlights
Standing at 23.19 meters tall, Feiyun Tower features a unique "three visible, five hidden" layered structure, topped with a cross-hipped roof. Remarkably, the entire structure was built without a single nail, relying solely on intricate mortise and tenon joints. Four towering golden pillars rise from the base to the top floor, surrounded by densely packed brackets that resemble swirling clouds, giving the tower its name, "Feiyun" (Flying Cloud).
📷 Best Photo Spots
Upon entering, the areas to the left and right offer the best vantage points for capturing panoramic views of Feiyun Tower. The roof, covered in yellow and green glazed tiles, shimmers brilliantly in the sunlight. The glazed warrior and animal figurines adorning the corners of the roof add a touch of unique charm.
