Clever Use of Light and Shadow in the Hedges"
The outdoor sections of the garden, particularly around the perimeter and the tall, manicured hedges, were used with deceptive simplicity. The designers placed small, single-point lights low to the ground, which cast huge, distorted, and wavering shadows of the shrubbery onto the pathways. These shadows seemed to move with the wind, making you constantly look twice at the towering shapes. The actors used this effect brilliantly, emerging from the dark space between the shadows and the actual hedges. It was a clever, low-tech way to create a deeply unsettling environment where familiar garden structures became hostile and alien.
