Deep within the tranquil Dabie Mountains, Xinxian County, south of Xinyang City, Henan Province, lies a place where rolling green hills and gurgling streams meet. Ancient dwellings, constructed from blue bricks and black tiles, dot the landscape in an orderly fashion. Unlike the calm and composed atmosphere of the north or the graceful, ethereal beauty of the south, this region possesses a profound and otherworldly beauty, honed over time.
Ginkgo Village is located in Yanggaoshan Village, Qianjin Township, Xin County. It currently has more than 6,800 ancient ginkgo trees, including 310 ancient ginkgo trees over 100 years old and 66 ancient ginkgo trees over 1,000 years old. It is a veritable "Ginkgo Town" and is known as the "No. 1 Ginkgo Village in Central Plains."
Within the scenic area, crimson leaves blanket the mountains, creating a vibrant crimson in the golden autumn, and the mountain village itself is ablaze with color. During the late Qing Dynasty, local residents spontaneously built a village to prevent bandit invasions. Village leader Yang Yuqi constructed three gates, a protective wall, and a watchtower, separating the village from the bandit village of Dayoujian by a river. This natural barrier protected the village from nearby bandits' bullying and occupation. After the Red Army captured Dayoujian in 1931, residents of various villages returned to the village to welcome the Red Army. Local residents praised the village, saying, "There are eighteen villages within a thousand miles, but when the Red Army arrives, every village opens its doors." After liberation, the village walls were demolished, but the remaining remains.
The subtropical monsoon climate makes Ginkgo Village the best place to travel in autumn.
As autumn deepens, it's the golden season. When the ancient ginkgo trees are ablaze with golden color and the maple trees are blooming with crimson, creating a dazzling autumn scene, a stroll through Ginkgo Village will reveal the true beauty of tourism.
