The Lushan Conference Site is located on the banks of the Changchong River in the eastern valley of Guling, Mount Lu. Nestled between verdant mountains to the right and a turquoise stream to the left, the site is beautifully landscaped with verdant pines and cypresses, red flowers and green grass, and a gurgling stream. The site was built by the Kuomintang Central Committee at a cost of 200,000 yuan. Chiang Kai-shek frequently addressed Kuomintang officers here, making it a crucial base for Chiang Kai-shek to train and cultivate key personnel.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was rebuilt and renamed the " Lushan People's Theater . " Its imposing exterior, ornate interior, and majestic grandeur further embody its blend of Eastern and Western influences. Covered in glazed tiles, it has two floors: an upper dining hall and an upper auditorium, accommodating thousands of people and used for film screenings. Since 1959 , the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has held three important meetings here.
Today, the site is the Lushan Conference Memorial Hall, a key symbol of Lushan's political fame and a significant cultural landmark. It retains the original appearance of the venue from the Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The documentary "Lushan Smoke and Clouds," a compilation of clips from the three Lushan Conferences, is shown on a loop in the hall, giving visitors a sense of history and a sense of being there.
