Guanyin Bridge, located 10 kilometers north of Xingzi County at the southeastern foot of Mount Lushan , was originally called " Qixian Bridge . " Because it spans the Three Gorges Stream, it's also known as " Three Gorges Bridge . " In the late Qing Dynasty, a Guanyin Pavilion was built at the bridgehead, and the name was changed to " Guanyin Bridge . " It's one of China's oldest stone arch bridges. The area is surrounded by lush forests, with thousands of willow branches, swaying bamboo shadows, and verdant pines and cypresses, creating an elegant and picturesque scenery. It has been a popular tourist destination since ancient times.
The bridge is 24.4 meters long and 4.1 meters wide. It is constructed of 107 granite blocks arranged in five rows of identical slabs. The bridge deck is paved with large stones and flanked by stone railings. It is renowned for its antiquity, uniqueness, grandeur, precariousness, and beauty. Beneath the bridge lies a " golden well " created by the stream's deep waters, as well as intermittent abysses, the water depth exceeding 30 to 40 meters. Guanyin Bridge is built on a cliff face, leaning against the rocks and spanning the stream, standing proudly among the cliff peaks.
Guanyin Bridge is a jewel in the history of bridge construction in southern China. Its immense engineering effort, grand scale, and exquisite, sturdy structure are all exceptionally rare. The Song Dynasty poet Wang Shipeng, while wandering across Guanyin Bridge, was moved by the scene and sang with emotion, writing the following lines: " Walking by the Three Gorges Bridge with a cane and walking stick, I wonder if I've already reached Kuizhou . In this poem , I attempt to compare it to the Three Gorges, but I deeply regret that my source has not been restored. "
