The Shanggao County Museum, formerly the Shanggao County Revolutionary History Memorial Hall, was established in January 1979 and was affiliated with the County Party Committee's Propaganda Department. It was renamed to its current name in December 1980 and is now under the County Cultural Bureau. The county conducted a cultural relic survey and discovered 19 ancient human settlement sites, the oldest of which is the Shizizhao cultural site from the late Neolithic period, dating back 4,000 years. There are also over 30 sites, including ancient tombs, kiln sites, city ruins, ancient silver mines, temples, and ancient buildings. The museum also compiled data from the cultural relic survey, which includes 22 county-level and three provincial-level cultural relic protection sites.
Yichun has a warm climate, abundant sunshine, plentiful rainfall and a long frost-free period.
