Introducing Dongshan

Dongshan, located in the northern part of Yifeng County, Jiangxi Province, is the ancestral temple of the Caodong School of Chinese Buddhism and the residence of its founder, Master Liangjia. As early as 840 AD, monks such as Watashi Norimitsu of Japan and Rigaku of Korea resided at Dongshan, bringing Caodong Buddhism to Japan and Korea. Dongshan Puli Zen Temple was first built during the mid-Tang Xiantong period and, after several periods of destruction, was rebuilt in 1988. It is still under restoration, with the current restoration project beginning in August 2010. The Dongshan Zen Meditation Center is also under construction to the right of the temple's central axis.

Dongshan is not only the ancestral home of the Caodong School of Buddhism, but also a tourist destination that integrates Buddhist culture and natural ecology. The majestic mountain gate bears the four golden characters "Dongshan Zen Forest" personally inscribed by the late Zhao Puchu, former president of the Buddhist Association. Dongshan, with its clear waters and beautiful scenery, has produced beauties from generation to generation. The goddess of the painted wall bathed in the Dongshan stream, resembling a lotus emerging from the water, earning her the emperor's favor. Therefore, the Dongshan stream is known as the "divine water of beauty." A visit to Dongshan, witnessing the Buddha's light and basking in the mountain's spiritual energy, promises to turn misfortune into good fortune, bring prosperity to one's career, and ensure success in all endeavors.
