Walt Disney World with baby & a toddler
Hi,
Looking for advice on Lyft/Uber. I have a 4 year old and a 7 month old and I'm staying in Holiday inn Disney Springs.
We will not be hiring a car and wanted to see what the likelihood of us being able to get car seats in?
Also do the Disney Lyft Minnie vans pick up and drop off at this hotel?
Thank you!
Traveling to Walt Disney World with a baby and a toddler requires a bit more planning, especially when relying on rideshare services and avoiding a rental car. Here’s a detailed overview:
Regarding Lyft/Uber:
- Standard Lyft and Uber vehicles typically do not guarantee car seats. While you may request a ride, there’s no assurance the driver will have a car seat for a 7-month-old, which is required by Florida law for children under 4 years old.
- For families with young children, you can request Uber Car Seat (if available in Orlando) or bring your own travel car seat and secure it in the ride. Lyft also has an option for a child seat in select cities, but availability can be limited and not guaranteed.
Regarding Disney-specific transportation:
- Disney Minnie Vans are part of Lyft, but they are specifically equipped with car seats. They can accommodate up to 6 passengers and provide two car seats for children, which is ideal for your 7-month-old and 4-year-old.
- Minnie Vans do pick up and drop off at Holiday Inn Disney Springs, as the hotel is within the Disney Springs Resort Area. You simply request the Minnie Van through the Lyft app, select the correct pickup location, and the driver will arrive at the designated area outside the hotel.
- Pricing for Minnie Vans is higher than standard Uber/Lyft, but the convenience and guaranteed car seats are often worth it for families traveling with very young children.
Additional tips:
- Consider using Disney buses, boats, and the Skyliner for transport to parks—these are free for resort guests and can save money, but you’ll need to manage strollers and carry-ons yourself.
- Bring a lightweight travel stroller for easy navigation through the parks and during rideshare pickups.
- Plan for slightly longer travel times, especially during peak park hours, when rideshare and Disney transportation can be busy.
In summary, for a family with a 7-month-old and 4-year-old staying at Holiday Inn Disney Springs, Minnie Vans via Lyft are the most reliable choice for guaranteed car seats and direct hotel-to-park service. Standard Uber or Lyft without car seats may work if you bring your own seat, but availability and safety are less certain.
