Island tour

I will only be in Honolulu for 3 nights in September. We plan on visiting Pearl Harbor even though parts may be closed. We would like to do an island tour as we will not be renting a car. Any recommendations for a tour company? Not looking st a private tour.

Thank you

Lynne

With only three nights in Honolulu and no car rental, booking a guided island tour is an excellent way to see the highlights of Oahu efficiently. Since you prefer not a private tour, there are several reputable companies offering small to mid-sized group tours that cover key sights including Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, North Shore, and more.

Some recommended tour companies for non-private island tours:

  • Roberts Hawaii: One of the largest and most established tour operators on Oahu. They offer full-day island tours, circle-island tours, and tours that combine Pearl Harbor with other major attractions. Pickup is often available from Waikiki hotels.
  • Oahu Tours: Offers classic Oahu circle-island tours with knowledgeable guides, covering Dole Plantation, North Shore, and scenic lookouts. Small to medium-sized groups, great for first-time visitors.
  • Polynesian Adventure Tours: Provides a range of options including full-day island tours and tours focused on natural sights, waterfalls, and cultural stops. Hotel pickup and drop-off included from most Waikiki hotels.
  • Hawaii Forest & Trail: Offers guided sightseeing tours emphasizing nature and culture, with options that include hiking and scenic viewpoints. Suitable for visitors who want a mix of comfort and activity.

Additional tips for your island tour:

  • Book tours that include hotel pickup and drop-off to avoid transportation hassles.
  • Check the timing of Pearl Harbor availability; if parts are closed, confirm if the tour still provides sufficient access to the USS Arizona Memorial or related exhibits.
  • Bring sunscreen, water, and a light jacket for coastal or mountain stops, as weather can vary throughout the island.
  • Consider a tour that balances sightseeing with shorter walking intervals, especially if you prefer a more relaxed pace over long walking tours.

With these group tours, you’ll be able to see the island highlights comfortably without the stress of driving and parking in Honolulu traffic. Booking in advance is recommended, especially for September, which can still be busy with visitors.
