Sunday night
Doing things a little differently this year. We are doing a Saturday to Tuesday trip. I'm looking for some free live jazz or rnb music on Sunday night or under $20 for person. We Are okay with anywhere within about 5 miles of the quarter
New Orleans offers a vibrant live music scene, and even on a Sunday night, you can find excellent jazz and R&B performances, often at little or no cost. Since you are looking for options within about 5 miles of the French Quarter and under $20 per person, there are several spots that are known for providing affordable or free live music experiences.
Free or Low-Cost Live Music Options:
- Fritzel’s European Jazz Pub: Located in the French Quarter, this historic jazz club often has cover charges under $20. Early evening sets are sometimes free, especially for happy hour performances.
- The Spotted Cat Music Club: Situated on Frenchmen Street, this is a popular spot for live jazz. Cover is usually minimal (around $10), and the intimate venue creates a great experience for small groups.
- Blue Nile (Frenchmen Street): Offers a mix of R&B, funk, and jazz. While some nights may have higher cover charges, Sunday often has deals or free entry before a certain hour. Drinks are extra, but the music is top-notch.
- Buffa’s Bar: A local favorite with live jazz and blues, typically with no cover or a very low fee. Casual and lively atmosphere, often with audience participation.
- Frenchmen Street Street Performers: Many musicians play outside the clubs on Frenchmen Street, and you can enjoy live music without paying cover, though tips are appreciated.
Tips for Sunday Night Music:
- Arrive early to secure a good spot, especially in smaller clubs where space is limited.
- Check the club’s website or social media for up-to-date schedules, as Sunday night lineups can vary.
- Consider combining multiple smaller venues on Frenchmen Street for a variety of live music experiences.
- Keep cash on hand for cover charges and tips, as some smaller bars and clubs may not accept cards.
In summary, for a Sunday night in New Orleans with a budget under $20 per person, Frenchmen Street is your best bet. There are multiple clubs and outdoor performers where you can experience authentic jazz and R&B without spending a fortune. Visiting early and hopping between a few venues can maximize your exposure to live music while keeping costs low.
