Suzhou Market Street in the Summer Palace

Suzhou Market Street in the Summer Palace was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. It is said that it was constructed for a favorite concubine who was a nun and missed her hometown of Suzhou after moving to Beijing. To make her feel at home, Emperor Qianlong created this street to resemble Suzhou, with shops lining both sides and a small river flowing through the middle, stretching about 300 meters. However, during our visit, it was under renovation.
