Tropical Dreams Come True at Balos Beach and Lagoon

#holidayitinerary Balos Beach and Lagoon feels like it belongs in the Caribbean, not Crete. The water is ridiculously clear, shifting between turquoise and light blue, and the sand is soft with this cool pinkish tint in spots. It’s honestly unreal. Getting there is a bit of a mission, you either take a bumpy dirt road followed by a short hike, or a boat ride from Kissamos.

But once you arrive, wow, totally worth it. The lagoon is super shallow and warm, perfect for wading around or just floating without a care. It can get pretty busy in peak season, but if you go early or later in the afternoon, it feels way more peaceful. There’s not much shade, so bring a hat and water. It’s one of those places that makes you stop and say, okay, this is paradise. Definitely a must if you’re in Chania.
