The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non‑profit research institute founded in 1987 near downtown Chengdu. It simulates natural bamboo forests across 3.07 km², housing over 200 giant pandas and many red pandas .
The Base leads global breeding and conservation efforts, combining scientific research, early cub care, veterinary care, and public education in its panda museum and open labs .
Visitors can stroll on leafy trails to see pandas of all ages play, rest, eat bamboo, or interact during feeding times (best in the morning) .
It’s a peaceful, scenic sanctuary that champions panda conservation, public awareness, and memorable animal encounters.
