Jiudongtian Scenic Area Travel Guide

Things to Prepare in Advance

Check the weather forecast in advance and bring comfortable sneakers, sunscreen, and rain gear. Tickets can be booked in advance on the official WeChat public account or travel apps to avoid long queues during peak season.

Overview of the Scenic Area

Jiudongtian Scenic Area is located in DaFang County, Guizhou Province. It features canyons, caves, and underground rivers. It gets its name from the nine skylights that are arranged in an orderly fashion, resembling "nine caves connected to the sky." It enjoys the reputation of being an "Encyclopedia of Karst Landforms in China."

How to Get There

- Public Transportation: First, arrive at DaFang County. Then, take a bus from DaFang Bus Station to Maochang Town and get off at Jiudongtian Scenic Area.

- By Car: Navigate directly to the Jiudongtian Scenic Area parking lot. The parking fee is about CNY 10–20 per day.

Suggested Itinerary

- Morning: Enter from the visitor center and visit the first to third caves. Admire the scenery where skylights and caves complement each other, and see the unique stalactites inside the caves.

- Noon: Have lunch at the restaurant in the scenic area and try the local specialty Luoguo (stir-fried dishes on a large flat griddle) and dried tofu. The average cost is about CNY 30–50 per person.

- Afternoon: Continue to visit the fourth to ninth caves. You can choose to take a boat tour of the underground river section to experience the charm of the karst landforms up close. Afterward, you can experience the glass walkway inside the cave (additional charges apply) to challenge yourself while enjoying the unique scenery.

Main Attractions

- Yuegongtian (Moon Palace Cave): The cave hall is magnificent, and the stalactites under the light look like a fairyland.

- Leitingtian (Thunderbolt Cave): There is a magnificent underground waterfall with roaring water, which is very spectacular.

- Jinguangtian (Golden Light Cave): Sunlight pours down through the skylight, forming a golden beam of light, creating a dreamlike scene.

Important Notes

The temperature inside the cave is relatively low, so bring a jacket.

Follow the instructions of the staff and wear a life jacket when taking a boat.

Protect the environment. Please do not litter or touch the stalactites.
