Huangpu Ancient Port, located in Shiji Village, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, is an important ancient port in Guangzhou and has witnessed the prosperity of Guangzhou on the Maritime Silk Road.The ancient port of Huangpu has played an important trade role since the Song Dynasty, especially during the Southern Song Dynasty, it became a ”gathering place for sea ships".
Historical background
The history of Huangpu Ancient Port can be traced back to the Southern Song Dynasty, when it became an important node of maritime trade.In 1685, the Qing government established the Guangdong Customs, and the ancient port of Huangpu became a necessary place for foreign merchant ships to enter Guangzhou, gradually replacing Macao's status.
In the 24th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1685), the four customs of Jiang, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong were established throughout the country, and the Guangdong Customs established the Huangpu Registered Port and Tax Hall in Huangpu Village.In the 22nd year of Qianlong (1757), the Qing Court abolished the other three customs, retaining only the Guangdong Customs, and designated Guangzhou as the only foreign trade port.From the 23rd year of Qianlong (1758) to the 17th year of Daoguang (1837), there were a total of 5,107 foreign merchant ships moored in the ancient port of Huangpu, and the ancient port of Huangpu entered its heyday.
Location and transportation
Huangpu Ancient Port is located in Shiji Village, Haizhu District, Guangzhou. It is adjacent to Guangyu Village to the east, Huangpu Chung to the south, Shiji Road to the west, and Shiji Xiti to the north.Visitors can take METRO Line 4/Line 8 to Wanshengwei Station Exit B, transfer to bus No. 229/Tourism Line 3 to Pazhou Shiji Village Terminal, or drive/take a taxi to Huangpu Ancient Port Parking Lot.
