The season of silvergrass is here again. If you want to hike Tai Tung Shan and take photos with the golden silvergrass, you should plan your hike between late November and December. Tai Tung Shan stands at 869 meters, making it the third highest peak in Hong Kong. Hiking requires a certain level of physical fitness. Starting from Pak Kung Au, the starting point is already at an altitude of 340 meters, which means less elevation gain and a relatively easier ascent.
In autumn and winter, the sun sets early, usually around 5 PM, and it gets completely dark by 6 PM. Therefore, it is recommended to descend the mountain before 5 PM. Tai Tung Shan is a great spot to watch the sunset, but be aware that while the silvergrass looks beautiful under the setting sun, it gets dark quickly once the sun goes down, making the descent more difficult and increasing the risk of accidents.
