Once a restricted area, Sha Tau Kok is now gradually opening up. 🚶
Apply for a restricted area permit and enter on designated days and times.
From Sheung Shui, take the 55K minibus for a 35-minute ride.
As soon as you step off the bus, you'll be captivated by the large murals on the walls,
documenting the thank-you parades of Hong Kong's folk festivals.
🥢Breakfast recommendation: Sha Tau Kok Cooked Food Centre.
Must-try Hakka flavors like salted chicken, braised pork, and stuffed tofu with bitter melon.
Complete with a cup of plum lemon honey or chrysanthemum tea in a jar.
🌊Stroll along the waterfront and gaze out over the mountains and bay from the Sun and Moon Pavilion. The colorful Ying Hai Tower, the fishing boats in the typhoon shelter, and the "Sha Tau Kok Corner" are all worth a photo stop.
🏛The old street arcades, the short-lived railway branch line,
the old fire station, and the post office—traces of history are everywhere.
Of course, don't miss the iconic and mysterious "Chong Ying Street." There's also the nearby Jinxi Haishan Restaurant, which is also very close to the Hong Kong-China border, offering stunning views.
If you want to extend your trip, you can take a boat to Ap Chau 🐥 to admire the red breccia geological landscape.
