The Marvel of Taroko Gorge

The best place to view the Taroko Gorge inside the national park, Swallow Grotto is near the middle of the park and located just after Buluowan.
Take Bus 310 from Hualien station and alight at Swallow Grotto. The path is shared between pedestrians and automobiles, total length of the trail is around 1.4 kilometers, due to frequent landslides and falling rocks, visitors are advised to wear a safety helmet, available for free from the park.
The trail was named after many swallows that forge and play among the rocks, formed over many many years ago, so you will notice many potholes on the cliff faces.
You will also notice the narrowest portion of Taroko Gorge where the river is most rapid.
