Jerash was founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC and later became one of the ten cities of the Decapolis in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. It flourished during the Roman and Byzantine periods, reaching its peak in the 2nd century AD.
There are well-preserved ruins, including temples, a theater, and a plaza.
