The Kawadoko (riverbed dining) season is when Kifune is at its most beautiful

📝Activity Tips
Kifune Shrine's Kawadoko is located at the foot of Mount Kurama in northern Kyoto.
Built along the crystal-clear Kifune River, it represents Kyoto's quintessential summer tradition.
From May to September each year, over a hundred riverside restaurants set up bamboo platforms on the riverbed.
Guests can dip their bare feet in the water while enjoying kaiseki cuisine and chilled somen noodles.
With the soothing sound of flowing water and lush maple trees providing shade,
the valley transforms into a magical firefly-like wonderland when paper lanterns illuminate the stream at night -
one of Kifune's most iconic experiences.
