An easy one-day trip from Osaka to Arashiyama. Exit Arashiyama Station and turn left a short distance to Tenryu-ji Temple, which leads to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

The 800 yen entrance fee includes admission to both the temple and the garden, but if you don't enter the temple, the route is a bit roundabout. The ticket is a one-way ticket, valid only once.

Tenryu-ji Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Kyoto's five most important Zen temples. It's incredibly beautiful.

Built in 1339 by the former Emperor Go-Daigo, it is the main temple of the Rinzai Zen sect.
