My five-day trip to Osaka included a special day trip to Kyoto to experience the tranquility and nightlife of this ancient capital. Izumisano Rinku City offered a perfect one-stop destination for shopping and dining. This itinerary perfectly combines history, culture, modern shopping, and natural beauty – visit the iconic Kiyomizu-dera Temple, enjoy the evening breeze and night views along the Kamo River, and then head straight to Izumisano Rinku City for a shopping spree! A fantastic route around Osaka, allowing you to easily explore everything.
Recommended Attractions:
📍Kyoto Must-Visit – Kiyomizu-dera Temple
If you love historical sites and the atmosphere of Kyoto's old streets, Kiyomizu-dera Temple is an absolute must-see! The stone steps and autumn leaves outside the temple create a scene reminiscent of a Japanese painting. Kiyomizu-dera boasts a magnificent gate, and the Kiyomizu Stage next to the main hall offers a stunning panoramic view of Kyoto. Especially during the limited-time nighttime opening in autumn, the illuminated temple creates a breathtaking atmosphere. It's recommended to enter in the morning or early evening to avoid the crowds.
Address: 1-294, Kiyomizu, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto, 605-0862, Japan
Business Hours: October 31 - November 21, 06:00-18:00; November 22 - December 7, 06:00-21:30 (last entry at 21:00); December 8 - December 31, 06:00-18:00
📸Kyoto Evening Stroll – Kamo River Bank
A walk along the Kamo River in the evening is highly recommended. The river is calm at night, the lights of the buildings on both banks are reflected, and the sky is a deep blue, making time seem to slow down. There are many Japanese izakayas and cafes along the river, perfect for gatherings with friends or dates! Remember to bring a jacket as it can be chilly at night, and make sure your phone and camera are fully charged to take beautiful photos.
🛍Izumisano City – Rinkuraikita Outlet
Rinkuraikita is a shopper's paradise! Located near Kansai Airport, it's incredibly convenient. With a wide selection of brands and great prices, you can always find some bargains. Besides shopping, Rinkuraikita is surrounded by seaside scenery, coconut trees, and parks, so you can relax on the beach when you're tired. There are also plenty of restaurants inside and outside the outlet; Japanese restaurants and dessert shops are highly recommended.
Address: Rinkuoraikita, Izumisano City, Osaka Prefecture 598-0048, Japan
Opening Hours: Open all year round
Travel Tips:
- Kyoto temples and old town areas involve a lot of walking, so I strongly recommend wearing comfortable shoes, otherwise your feet will definitely ache! (Personal experience, flip-flops are a no-go!)
- If you happen to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple during its special nighttime illumination period (autumn nighttime lighting), remember to queue early to get in, otherwise the most beautiful lights shining on the autumn leaves can get very crowded.
- The Kamo River is especially tranquil at night, and you might even stumble upon a street performance or a small market, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Why not grab some izakaya snacks along the way and enjoy them while you stroll?
- Before shopping at Rinku Castle, make a list of the brands you want to buy. The discount area refreshes quickly, so don't hesitate to grab your favorites!
Transportation & Food Recommendations:
- From Osaka city center, take the JR or Kintetsu Railway to Kyoto Station in 40 minutes. For Izumisano Rinku Castle, take the Nankai Railway directly; it's right next to Rinku Castle Station, very convenient.
- Near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, there are many traditional wagashi (Japanese sweets) shops and matcha dessert shops. We recommend "Saryou Tsujiri" and "Shichimi-ya Honpo" for souvenirs.
- Near Rinku Castle, there are Japanese ramen shops, okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) shops, and popular souvenir shops. If you're planning to return home, you can stock up on some souvenirs.
If you're looking for a truly authentic Kansai experience, this simple itinerary is incredibly rewarding: Kyoto's beautiful night views and majestic temples, plus shopping and leisure options at Rinku City in Izumisano. Why not give it a try next time you're in Osaka?
