Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

🏯✨ Review of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat ✨🏯 A heritage of faith and history that must be experienced with all one's heart.

Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, also known as "Wat Phra That" by the locals of Nakhon Si Thammarat, is a first-class royal temple with a history spanning over 1,000 years. Built during the Srivijaya period to enshrine the relics of the Lord Buddha, it served as the center of Buddhism in the southern region.

A highlight is the large "Phra Borommathat Chedi," a Sri Lankan-style structure with a spire covered in pure gold. Known as the "Shadowless Chedi," the chedi's spire never casts a shadow on the ground! Surrounding the chedi are over 149 surrounding chedis, reflecting the deep faith of the Nakhon Si Thammarat people.

The temple complex also includes the Vihara Luang, the Vihara Phra Song Ma, the Vihara Dharma Sala, and a museum showcasing valuable artifacts. The annual "Pha Khao Chedi Procession" is a significant tradition, a truly impressive display of the collective efforts of the people of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
