[Toyama Prefecture] Shirakawa-go: A village of Gokayama Gassho-style houses

A Gassho-style village in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture

A stroll through the village in the beautiful, rustic snowy scenery, surrounded by the great nature of Toyama 🚶‍♂️

Until recently, there was no adequate transportation route, and due to the rugged terrain and heavy snowfall in winter, it was once called a hidden area 🏔

The Gassho-style houses were apparently residences and factories built for silkworm farming and for producing saltpeter, a raw material for gunpowder 🧐
Even today, the village is working together to re-thatch the thatched roofs, and the spirit of "Yui" (bonds) of people helping each other is firmly rooted, giving a sense of the old traditions and history. I did 😌

Gokayama, where you can enjoy the atmosphere of each season 👍
I'd like to visit again in a different season 🙆‍♂️
