Noboribetsu Jigokudani: A Volcanic Wonderland of Hot Springs

Noboribetsu Jigokudani, located in the hot spring town of Noboribetsu in Hokkaido, is a desolate yet stunning landscape shaped by volcanic activity. The 450-meter-wide volcanic crater emits white smoke year-round, with the pungent smell of sulfur filling the air. Its reddish-brown rock walls are dotted with boiling fumaroles, creating an otherworldly scene reminiscent of a realm inhabited by spirits. The geothermal energy here nurtures some of Japan's finest hot springs, which supply the surrounding inns and resorts. In winter, snow covers the sulfur crystals, forming a magical blend of blue and white scenery.
