This temple was first built during the reign of King Prasat Thong.

During the fall of Ayutthaya, the Phra Mongkhon Bophit temple and the Buddha statue were severely damaged. It has also been flooded many times. Both the Buddha statue and the temple have been renovated over time until they are as beautiful as they are today.

It is free to enter. In front of the temple, there are souvenir shops, clean restrooms, and a shady place to sit behind the temple.

It is open for worship every day. On weekdays, it opens from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, it opens from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
