Wat Phra Si Sanphet, which is over 500 years old today, is an important historical site that is the prototype of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram (Wat Phra Kaew) in Bangkok.
Located to the north of Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, it is an important temple of Ayutthaya, which is a temple built in the Grand Palace. It is comparable to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram or Wat Phra Kaew today. It is where the royal remains of almost every king of the Ayutthaya period are kept. The three pagodas of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the first on the east side, contains the royal remains of King Borommatrailokanat, the second is the middle, contains the royal remains of King Borommarachathirat III, and the third on the west side, contains the royal remains of King Ramathibodi II. All three pagodas are Sri Lankan-style pagodas.
