🍀 Review: Strolling Through History at Aobayama Park

Aobayama Park, set on the former grounds of Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle), offers a beautiful blend of nature, history, and panoramic city views. Although the original castle structures no longer stand, you can still spot remnants of the old stone walls and foundations that hint at the grandeur of what once was.

We parked at the base of the hill and took on the roughly 30-minute climb up. It was a bit of a workout, but well worth it — the path offered lovely scenic views and a peaceful forested atmosphere. Once at the top, we were rewarded with a sweeping view of Sendai city laid out below us.

The park also houses several historical monuments and markers, enriching the visit with cultural significance. Unfortunately, the iconic Date Masamune equestrian statue was under renovation during our visit. A large photo stand-in was thoughtfully placed on-site for visitors to snap pictures — a nice gesture even if we missed the real statue.

Overall, Aobayama Park is a rewarding stop for those interested in history, light hiking, and stunning views of Sendai.
