[Sendai Dai Kannon (Sendai Tendo White Robe Dai Kannon)]
This gigantic Kannon statue suddenly appears in a quiet residential area on a hill on the outskirts of Sendai City.
In its right hand, it holds a wish-granting jewel, which is said to grant our wishes, and in its left hand, a water jar, which stores the water of wisdom and pours it onto us, granting us wisdom.
Erected to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sendai City, it is the largest Kannon statue in Japan and the second largest Buddhist statue after the Ushiku Daibutsu in Ibaraki Prefecture.
It also has a 21-meter underground depth, representing prayers for prosperity in the 21st century.
In addition to viewing Sendai Dai Kannon from the outside, you can enter through the dragon's mouth at its base for a 500 yen admission fee.
The interior has a 12-story atrium and houses a total of 108 Buddhist statues, known as the "Hyakuhatdai Buddhas."
In Buddhism, this Buddhist statue represents the 108 worldly desires, or "earthly desires," that humans possess.
The top floor houses the Goshinden (Goshinden), where the deity is enshrined, and an observation window offering a panoramic view of Sendai city.
There's even an elevator inside.
You'll be amazed at how much larger it is than you'd imagine.
Now, I find myself searching for Kannon wherever I go in Sendai. lol
You can see it by climbing the tall buildings at Sendai Station.^^
It's watching over Sendai, isn't it?
The matchmaking oil-spraying Daikokuten statue, which has been enshrined within the temple grounds since before the construction of the Sendai Daikannon, is said to be a famous matchmaking spot among young men and women, known as the deity of successful marriage.
