The former Tainan Waterway Purification Reservoir, located in Tainan's Shanshang District, is not only a key starting point for Taiwan's modern water supply system but also a national historical monument. Built in 1922 during the Japanese colonial period, it was a key facility in the then-current Tainan Waterway system. Its rich historical heritage and unique architectural style make it a must-see destination on any Tainan trip. This modern water supply system was planned and designed by British engineer William K. Burton and his student Yashiro Hamano. This massive project consists of two parts: the water source, which draws water from the Wushantou Reservoir, and the purification reservoir in Shanshang District, which filters, disinfects, and stores the water. The former Tainan Waterway Purification Reservoir has been transformed into a national monument, the former Tainan Waterway. Visitors can admire the century-old architecture and learn about the history of the water supply system. The former Tainan Waterway Purification Reservoir is a must-see.
