Stepping into Anping Old Fort feels like opening a door to the past. The red brick walls glisten warmly under the sunlight, bearing witness to the history of Dutch fortifications and holding countless stories carried by the sea breeze over centuries. From the lookout tower, the view unfolds with the blue sea and scattered rooftops, resembling a still oil painting. The gentle breeze carries a faint salty scent, evoking images of bustling merchant ships from ancient times.
In the quiet afternoon, with few visitors around, I sit silently by the brick wall, watching vines slowly climb and grow along the aged structure. They are unhurried, patiently intertwining history and daily life, much like this city itself. As I leave, the setting sun bathes the walls in a crimson glow, as if reminding me that the stories of this land are far from over.
