Anping Fort, formerly known as Fort Zeelandia, is one of the most historically significant monuments in Tainan. In the 17th century, in order to control Taiwan’s trade and military, the Dutch built a castle here, which became the most important stronghold at the time. Later, Zheng Chenggong conquered this place and renamed it "Anping Town", thus starting the era of Han Chinese rule in Taiwan. Today, some red brick walls and artillery positions are still preserved in the castle, as if telling the story of past wars and changing circumstances.
