[Taiwan] 10 things you should know before you go

We're Nicolena, a Japanese-Italian couple who love Asia and cost-effective travel. ✈︎

Here's a list of things you should know before going to Taiwan. ☺️

Taiwan is different from Japan in many ways, so it's going to be a little different. 😳
It's important to have some prior knowledge to ensure a safe and comfortable stay, as well as to save money. 🙌

① Pay attention to the season. ☔️
→ Spring and autumn are the best seasons. However, you can only eat fresh mangoes from May to September. 🥭

② Don't drink tap water. 🚰
→ Try to drink mineral water instead. 🥤

③ Toilets may not flush toilet paper. 🚽
→ Many hotels with 4-star or higher ratings have flushable toilets. 💧

④ The EasyCard is convenient. ✨
→ A transportation IC card that can be used on the MRT, buses, etc. 🚇
It's convenient because you don't have to buy a ticket every time. 🙌

➄ Be careful with amenities. 🪥
→ Due to the Taiwanese government's environmental protection policy, disposable amenities (such as toothbrushes) will be banned from January 2025. (e.g., rashi) have been abolished 😢

⑥ Cash is essential 🪙
→ You'll need cash in many places, such as night markets and local restaurants 💰

⑦ The MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line is a convenient place to stay in Taipei 🏩
→ Many popular spots, including Taipei 101 and Shilin Night Market, are located along the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line, so it's convenient to stay near a station on this line 😉

⑧ Pay attention to outlets and voltage 🔌
→ The plugs are the same as in Japan, but the voltage is 110V, which is different from Japan (100V). If you're using 100V-specific products, you'll need a transformer ⚡
