Last time during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, I took a trip to Wuzhen. Actually, I spent a whole day traveling back and forth, which was a bit more intense, but if you go for a weekend two days, it’s just right because I only visited Xizha.
So this guide has been optimized to include both Xizha and Dongzha.
💪 Suitable for: Travelers with limited time, good stamina, and who want to see the most attractions in the shortest time
⏰ Day 1 Saturday: Power Walk in Xizha + Night Scenery
🚄 Transportation Suggestions:
Depart after work on Friday evening, take the high-speed train to Tongxiang Station (about 1 hour from Shanghai/Hangzhou), then a 30-minute taxi directly to Wuzhen (about 80 RMB)
Or take the earliest high-speed train on Saturday (departing at 6:30), arrive in Wuzhen before 8:00
Morning itinerary (8:00-12:00)
✔ 7:30-8:30 Enter Xizha Scenic Area first batch (avoid crowds!)
✔ 8:30-9:30 Check in at Caomu Bense Dyeing Workshop (beautiful morning light and shadows)
✔ 10:00-11:00 Stroll through the Water Market, have morning tea (Dingsheng Cake + Soy Milk)
✔ 11:30-12:30 Climb the White Lotus Pagoda, overlook the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal
Afternoon itinerary (13:30-18:00)
✔ 13:30-15:00 Visit the Mu Xin Art Museum (a must for art lovers)
✔ 15:30-17:00 Walk around Wuzhen Post Office (you can write a letter to your future self) + Zhaoming Academy, Juedai Jinlian Museum, Yue Lao Temple
✔ 17:30-18:30 Rest at a riverside café (recommend "Qiaoliqiao Teahouse")

✔ 19:00-20:00 Night tour on a rowing boat (shared boat 60 RMB/person, a must-try!)

✔ 7:00-8:00 Early morning stroll in Dongzha (quiet and peaceful, opens at 7)
✔ 8:30-9:30 Visit Mao Dun’s Former Residence + Hongyuan Tai Dyeing Workshop
✔ 10:00-11:00 Watch the High Pole Boat Performance (10:30 show)
Afternoon itinerary (12:00-15:00)
✔ 12:00-13:00 Eat Shusheng Lamb Noodles (popular shop, go early)
✔ 13:30-15:00 Explore the free Nanzha Old Street (original ecological water town style)
🚄 Return Trip Suggestions:
15:30 Take a taxi to Tongxiang Station, take the 16:30 high-speed train back (arrive Shanghai/Hangzhou at 18:00)

✅ Transportation: Walk inside the scenic area + shuttle bus to save time
