One of the local foods you should try in Xi'an is "Yangrou Paomou". It is a meal that has been eaten since ancient times in the Guanzhong region, including Shaanxi Province, where Xi'an is located, and Shanxi Province, and is known to have been eaten as early as the 11th century BC. 👀
"Yangrou Paomou" is made by tearing up hard white bread called Baiji Mou (pic 2) and boiling it in lamb soup with lamb and glass noodles.
I had always known about it, but this was my first time eating it in Xi'an! I thought the bread would be soggy, but it was quite chewy and satisfying. The soup was rich, but not too much of a lamb smell. It was delicious! Since it was morning, we shared one for two people, but it was enough✌️
How to order "Lamb Broth Bun"⏬
① Order at the counter at the entrance and pay in advance (pic5)
② Receive the bowl containing Bai Ji Mo (pic2)
③ Hand over the bowl at the window next to the order counter and receive a numbered ticket (pic3)
④ When it's ready, your number will be called and you can collect it (pic4)
This restaurant was quite spacious and had many seats. However, we went at an odd time around 10am, and it was very popular and almost full. Please try it when you're in Xi'an!
