Although Taman Sari Water Castle in Yogyakarta covers a small area, its unique historical atmosphere and architectural style make it worth a visit. The entire site can be explored on foot in about 15 minutes, but the exquisite royal bathing pools, hidden underground mosque, and distinctive Javanese-Portuguese architectural style make this short trip full of surprises.
On the day we visited, the Water Castle was crowded with many locals, and almost every corner was filled with people taking photos. Finding a quiet spot to take pictures was really difficult, and even a simple photo required waiting in line.
The bustling crowds made it hard to stay long, even though the site itself is beautiful. After a brief walk to soak in the local atmosphere, we decided to leave. Although we didn’t get to take leisurely photos as planned, experiencing the history and the enthusiasm of the crowd was a different kind of experience!
