Introducing Hailing Lake

Hailing Lake is located on the border of Donghai and Ganyu counties in northeastern Jiangsu Province, bordering Linshu County, Shandong Province to the west. It is a major project in the "Diverting the Shu River through the Sha River" project. It was formed by damming the upper reaches of the New Shu River. The reservoir area was originally located in the Shiliang River basin, a tributary of the Sha River.

Built between 1958 and 1962, the dam is 5,200 meters long and 22 meters high, with a total storage capacity of 531 million cubic meters. It features a 15-sluice spillway, which discharges floodwaters into the sea via the Xinshu River and Linhong River. A small hydropower station is also located there, diverting water for irrigation of 900,000 mu (approximately 16,000 acres). Primarily used for irrigation and flood control, it also serves as a power generation facility, aquaculture facilities, and water supply for urban residents. It is the largest artificial reservoir in Jiangsu Province.

The reservoir has multiple functions such as flood control, water storage, irrigation, and power generation. It is not only an important part of the East-to-South Water Diversion Project, but also a key flood control and security project in our province. Since its completion, it has played a huge social and economic benefit.
