1st time visitors to Atlanta

Question

Hi will be visiting Atlanta next July for the 1st time with plans to visit Stone Mountain & other historical sites around the City. What would be the best area to stay for a few days that is convenient to the airport & midtown. We are on a bit of a budget & don't really need the high end hotels as we plan to do a lot of sightseeing & a couple of day trips. Thanks for any help & suggestions
