[Hokkaido] What is Goryokaku like?

Hey, everyone, did you know? Goryokaku is more than just a park! In 1864, during the final days of the Edo period, a French architect designed it in a star shape as Japan's first Western-style fortress. It was designed to be easy to defend against enemy attacks from any direction! Apparently, it had exceptional defensive capabilities! ✨

But then, it was the setting for the Battle of Hakodate... This "five ridges," full of historical romance, has now transformed into a famous cherry blossom viewing spot and Instagram-worthy spot. 🌸🎥 At night, the illuminated moat sparkles, like the trail of stars raining down from space!

Looking down at that perfect star shape from the observation deck, you can't help but exclaim, "Wow!" Goryokaku is a place where you can enjoy history, nature, and photogenic scenery all at once, so it's an absolute must-see when visiting Hakodate, right? 😆🗼
